Serge Lutens

From the beginnings of Serge Lutens to his collaboration with Dior

Serge Lutens was born in March 1942 in Lille. He started his professional life at the age of 14 as an apprentice in a large hairdressing salon. Very quickly, he created a style all his own, plating the hair of his friends, making them up with a pale complexion accompanied by a smoky look. What is more, he coupled this with his passion for photography and did not hesitate to photograph his models. In 1962, his prints allowed him to be hired by Vogue magazine to create hairstyles, makeup and jewelry. He then became one of the most influential figures of his time in terms of fashion and beauty. In 1967, he was spotted by the Dior house, which entrusted him with the development of its make-up. He then worked for the brand for many years while devoting part of his time to his passion for cinema and photography. In addition, he was even exhibited as a photographer in 1973 at the Guggenheim Museum in New York.

The consecration of Serge Lutens

The year 1980 marked the beginning of a new collaboration between Serge Lutens and the Shiseido group. He was then responsible for the development of the brand’s products from A to Z, from product design to the production of their advertising films. This period was particularly intense of work and allowed him to assert his unique identity. What is more, his determination earned him several awards, including two Golden Lions at the Advertising Film Festival, as well as the Grand Prix at the Unesco-sponsored Art Film Festival in 1990. Barely two years later , in 1992, Serge Lutens also developed the fragrance Féminité du Bois, a veritable olfactory revolution putting an end to the male-female segmentation of perfumery. What is more, it was also during this period that Serge Lutens opened his own boutique within the walls of the Palais Royal in Paris. This is how he created his own brand called Parfums Beauté Serge Lutens, in 2000. A real success, he was awarded the Fifi Awards for the best original concept for four years in a row, from 2001 to 2004. In 2006, he obtained the title of Talent d’Or by the Sommet du Luxe et de la Céation before being made Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters by the Ministry of Culture and Communication, in 2007. < / p>
