Description

Shalimar takes us to the sun with Breath of Light

Shalimar is an outrageously sensual and carnal fragrance, still perfectly topical, while having a unique heritage within it. Guerlain has now decided to make it more radiant. Shalimar still gives speaks to us of love but us the splendor of a new story. It is now called Shalimar Souffle de Lumière and focuses on one of the most famous flowers in women’s perfumery: jasmine.

Jasmine at the heart of Guerlain’s new composition

Shalimar Souffle de Lumière is a dazzling composition, both warm and sensual. Its start remains fresh and highlights the invigorating breath of bergamot. Then, its heart reveals the central element of its recipe: a more enveloping jasmine, married to the exoticism of ylang-ylang. This floral and luminous note finally evolves towards a more syrupy base. Madagascar vanilla finishes it off with its delicious solar scent. Through this perfume, Thierry Wasser, official perfumer of Guerlain, has decided to celebrate jasmine, one of its favorite fragrant notes. For this, he did not hesitate to explore the world in search of the purest varieties of this flower. After all, nothing is too good to reinterpret the legend of Guerlain …

Shalimar Souffle de Lumière is dressed in a pearly bottle

Shalimar Souffle de Lumière is a juice inspired by one of the most beautiful Indian love stories. In the 17th century, Emperor Shah Jahan was head over heels for one of his wives, Mumtaz Mahal. When the latter died, he decided to build the most beautiful mausoleum in the gardens in which they let their love speak. This is how the Taj Mahal was built in the middle of the gardens of Shalimar. The Shalimar Breath of Light bottle is very much inspired by the building. Its white bottle is reminiscent of the plaster that covers the walls of this illustrious building. The blue color, meanwhile, represents the water that floods its fountains. The whole forms a chiseled pedestal basin. In reality, The Shalimar Breath of Light bottle has exactly the same silhouette as that of its predecessors. This is a chiseled pedestal basin that also won first prize at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris in 1925, the year of its release.

Other versions of Shalimar

If the very first version of the Shalimar perfume saw the light of day in 1925, it has recently been very widely reinterpreted. Initially, it was a daring fragrance inaugurating the family of oriental juices. In 2008, it became Eau de Shalimar, turning into a more lively and sparkling fragrance. Shalimar Souffle de Parfum from 2014, meanwhile, was a brighter floral. In 2015, Shalimar Cologne further enhanced its freshness and transparency. Finally, the last Shalimar Souffle Intense of 2017 revealed the power of a very vegetal sambac jasmine borrowed directly from Indian flavors.
